Purrfection did it again! This time this painting received First Place for Acrylics at the 86th MPSGS International Fine Art Exhibition, held at the historic Strathmore Mansion in North Bethesda, MD, November 17th, 2019 - January 5, 2020. With a show as large as this (800 plus minis) awards are given in advance of the actual opening. By manipulating the direction and level of light to elongate the shadows cast here by this favorite feline and swing deck chair, Linda has successfully elevated this piece to a higher level. Artists’ studios are often bursting with supplies to feed their creative juices, and Linda's is no different than most. That’s why she was so excited to receive an award in the way of a gift certificate to Dick Blick Artist Materials for her painting Delicate Delight. Judge Diane Fechbach chose this painting depicting a fragile white peacock butterfly for this prize from the hundreds of oils, watercolors, and other media on display during the 15th Annual “Mountainside Miniatures Exhibit & Sale.” Handing out an award like this is comparable to giving a child free rein in a candy store! It didn’t take Linda long to spend down the allotted moneys in one fell swoop!

In its third year, Sketch for Survival 2019 is a conservation campaign organized by the registered UK charity, Real World Conservation Trust, to raise funds through an online auction for conservation charities that are pivotal in the battle to protect imperiled animals. All profits from the sale of the artwork will be gifted to this year’s beneficiaries: Ape Alliance, Giraffe Conservation Foundation, Painted Dog Conservation, and the Mariamma Charitable Trust.

The auction is now LIVE and open for bidding. There is truly a remarkable collection of original art, sketches, illustrations, cartoons and photography in the 175 available lots. These works have all been donated by the professional art community as well as by celebrities, explorers, and world class photographers. The gorilla (pictured) is Linda’s contribution to this year’s event.

You don’t have to register to view the artwork, but if you come across a piece, or pieces you’d like to own, all you have to do is register, make your bid, and then track the bidding activity by refreshing the page on your selection(s). This was the 15th exhibition for Heartland Art Guild’s annual miniature art show, and this year the show was bigger than ever with nearly 350 works on display. The exhibition was held at the Miami County Historical Museum, where panels lined the walls with little miniature wonders from across America and the world. It was a happy moment for Linda, when she was informed Bee Buffet received an Honorable Mention from this year’s judge, Michael Young, an artist who has exhibited widely throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan.

Linda recently received the exciting news that her miniature painting, Spring Arrival won the Best Acrylic Painting award at Seaside Art Gallery’s 28th International Miniature Art Show, which featured nearly 600 miniature works from around the world. Housed in the peaceful ambience of the Seaside Art Gallery in Nags Head, NC, this exhibition is one of the largest and most diverse international miniature art shows in all of the fifty states of America.

Judge’s comments: The brilliant, pure colors were the first thing that drew me to this painting. On further inspection, and getting closer and closer with the magnifying glass, I was entranced with the three dimensional quality of the leaves and flowers against the rich blue sky. The balance of color & hue, juxtaposition of color and contrast, all are woven together to make this painting so intriguing.

Linda was thrilled to hear that she received a First Place award from the Parklane Gallery, one of the top five of 184 galleries located in the art center of downtown Kirkland in Washington State at their 27th Annual International Miniature Art Show.

“Sunshine, aka Gargamel, was one of my favorite feline models, who loved to spend time at our home. This painting was composed referencing several photos I took of him on our deck. Backlighting for certain pieces such as this can intensify compositional interest, especially by manipulating the direction and level of light, as I did here. My choice to lower the sun’s rays dramatically lengthened the shadows of the cat and those cast from our swing chair. I felt this adjustment would definitely take the painting to another level. For all I know, this revision may have just tipped the scale for this distinctive award.” LR

“As Evening Comes” was recognized with the Best Cat Award (wild or domestic) at the MASF 44th Annual International Miniature Art Show that ran from January 20 - February 10, 2019. What is a show without funding to finance the prizes for the well-deserved artist? The MASF exhibition is particularly well-sponsored, offering numerous, generous awards to the artists who contribute, including one for the “Best Cat” by a long-time collector.

Artists are very appreciative of these awards that recognize them for their tireless efforts and talent. These prizes are indeed an impetus for them to keep creating new innovative works and to make each piece better than their last.

The MASF miniature art exhibition, the largest of its kind in the world, annually attracts approximately 230 artists from all over the globe, and collectors flock to this show to buy these intimate little treasures. Linda was honored to have had all 6 of her submissions juried into the show, where approximately 700 exquisite mini masterworks were on display and available for purchase.
